Volunteer with Us

volunteer as a young person

Our Young Leaders Programme gives members aged 15 and over the chance to get involved in mentoring other young people, and playing a part in running events here at The Hive.

The programme can also be a pathway to other youth networks and the chance to become an OnSide ‘National Game Changer’, with opportunities to travel across the UK and meet with other young leaders and youth advocates.

The course is accredited by Vinspired

volunteer as an adult

Volunteers are an integral part of #TeamHive and what we offer to young people – that’s why a culture of volunteering has been part of our story since we opened.

Our passionate volunteers generously give their time, strengthening our offer through their diverse range of skills, experiences, perspectives, ability and interests.

They fundraise, cook, goalkeep, support our reception, help our youth workers run games and activities, steer our work as trustees, look after our garden, paint walls and much, much more.

mentor a young person

Mentoring offers one-to-one support to empower a young person, encouraging reflection and better understanding of themselves.

Our mentors use a coaching approach to help young people set a goal and find their own route to achieve it, with support and encouragement.

To be a good mentor, you’ll need to have:

  • The ability to listen
  • The time to commit to weekly sessions
  • Empathy and an open mind.

It’s not just an experience for the young person though – our mentors say that supporting a young person is transformative for them, too.

We’ll give you full training – you don’t need previous experience.

Our next intake and matching will take place this autumn, so watch this space for opportunities!

Current Volunteer Opportunities

Hiveability Sunday mornings

Could you help regularly on our dedicated session for young people with additional needs? We need people who can commit for a few hours every Sunday morning to help with activities, welcoming and more!

kitchen and tuckshop

If you know your onions, we’re looking for more volunteers to help us prep, serve and cook for our sessions and events. We’ve got regular and adhoc opportunities.

Gym and boxing

If you’re a qualified Level 3 gym instructor or boxing coach, donating regular time to help young people access our gym and boxing activities. These are two of the most popular rooms at The Hive, and we’d like to open them on every session!

Mentor a young person

Donate weekly time over six months to support a young person 1-1. Make a real difference with your listening ear, coaching skills and dedicated time on an activity chosen by them, to help them reach their chosen goal. We’ll give you full training and support, and you’ll join our incredible community of mentors – who tell us the experience is just as powerful for them as it is for young people.
