The Hive

Youth Zone nearing practical completion

Excitement across the borough of Wirral is building as construction work on the new Youth Zone, The Hive, nears completion with less than 60 days to go until opening.

Building contractors, H.H. Smith & Sons, have been working towards the completion of the £6million Wirral Youth Zone to create a new ‘buzzing’ Youth Zone environment for all local young people of the borough. The new facility is nearing completion with the remaining works such as roof top 3G kick pitch, brightly coloured elevation fins, skate park and remaining external areas almost complete. The internal works are being cleaned and snagged ready for handover to OnSide Youth Zones so that the internal fit out can commence in the latter part of February and March ready for the grand opening on April 8th 2017.

The Hive Youth Zone’s Young People’s Development Group have since been working with OnSide Youth Zones Senior Development Surveyor, Adam Poyner, to put some of their fresh and exciting ideas into practice from artwork on the walls, to colours of their furniture.

Build Update - 1 month to go!

Stuart Barnes, General Manager at The Hive – Wirral Youth Zone said: “We are well on track with the development of the Youth Zone ahead of opening on April 8th 2017. With the erection of the colourful and striking looking fins, people will now be able to physically see the vision become a reality for the young people of Wirral. The next few weeks will see interior elements of the Youth Zone take shape and as with any OnSide Youth Zone young people’s vision is imperative and we are all excited to see what they come up with.”

Wirral Youth Zone will offer a multitude of activities and services will help raise the aspirations, improve the health and well-being and enhance the prospects of an anticipated membership of over 3,000 young people across Wirral.

To make this a reality, The Hive needs to recruit 100 dedicated members of the community to make sure they deliver the best service for Wirral’s young people. If you have a passion for working with young people or simply want to give a little back by helping out in an admin or kitchen role for example, The Hive want to hear from you, contact Volunteer and Training Manager Sam Curley on: sam.curley@thehiveyouthzone.org.

The Hive will cost £1 million per year to run and this will be through a combination of public sector and private sector funding. 50% of the running costs has virtually been secured through the local business community, but they still need more. Becoming a Founder Patron of The Hive is a chance for the local businesses and philanthropists to make the difference to the lives of young people and the future of a prospering region. Their support and endorsement of the project will lead the way to encourage others to invest in the future of the borough’s young people. Wirral Youth Zone is an independent charity which will operate to the successful OnSide Youth Zones model. For more information or to sign up as a member visit www.thehiveyouthzone.org/new-member.
