The year is 1995. PlayStation have just launched its first-ever console. Films like Apollo 13, Golden Eye, and Dumb and Dumber are dominating the box office. Stan Collymore makes headlines with a record-breaking £8.5 million transfer to Liverpool. But for music fans, the summer will be defined by one thing: The Battle of Britpop. Blur vs. Oasis. Arguably two of the biggest bands of the 90s, head-to-head in a chart showdown, in a time when physical sales alone determined who came out on top.
Fast forward to today, and this iconic moment in music history forms the backdrop of ‘Wonderwall,’ a short film by director Róisín Burns. Named, of course after the timeless Oasis anthem, what makes this film particularly exciting for us at The Hive is the inclusion of a very familiar face.
It all began when the film’s producers, looking for fresh talent, put out audition calls in the local press. Eager to connect with authentic young voices, they paid a visit to The Hive to meet some of our talented members. Amongst the sea of enthusiastic and gifted young people, one individual caught their eye: Tammy.
With encouragement from our brilliant youth workers, Tammy attended an audition and nailed it. She landed a role in the film, and her journey from The Hive to Hollywood was officially underway.
Tammy (seen here in the promotional poster for the film,) has long been known to The Hive team as a star in the making. She previously wowed audiences at our Believe event, confidently telling guests: “You’ll see me in Hollywood one day.” And if her performance in Wonderwall is anything to go by, that day may not be far off.
Some of the film’s rehearsals were even hosted right here at The Hive, making this journey all the more special. Now, Wonderwall is set to premiere at Cannes, one of the world’s most prestigious film festivals, and thanks to the generous support of the film’s director and producers, Tammy will be there in person, walking the red carpet, attending screenings, giving a speech at the launch and living out her dream, shoulder to shoulder with Hollywood’s biggest names.
For all of us at The Hive, seeing Tammy’s dream begin to take flight is nothing short of inspiring. She’s proof that with support, belief, and a spark of talent, anything is possible.
“And all the roads that lead you there were winding…
And all the lights that light the way are blinding…”
