Junior Communications Officer

Salary: Up to £14K dependant on experience 

30 hours per week (including some evenings & weekends)

An exciting opportunity to work for The Hive, as part of the marketing and communications team. The successful candidate will assist with the promotion of high-profile campaigns as well as the running of our busy social media platforms.

Role overview;

To raise the profile of Wirral Youth Zone amongst key stakeholders in the region, supporting The Hive’s communications and marketing strategy. You will be responsible for creating content across our social media channels and promoting key events and fundraising activities to enhance visibility, build support and increase our effectiveness. In particular you will:

  • Raise awareness of the Youth Zone amongst the whole community through our social media channels, including young people, partners, funders and potential patrons/ donors
  • Engage with young people to capture The Hive from a young person’s perspective
  • Portray a positive image of young people, their achievements, development, voice, contribution etc.
  • Produce high quality, creative and modern communications that really captivate the target audience and reflect The Hive’s brand value

An interest in Photography and Design would be desirable, including some

knowledge of basic video editing

 

Key responsibilities

  • Supporting the Head of Marketing to ensure social media accounts are monitored and kept up to date
  • Generation of content for social media including writing Tweets and posts for Facebook and Instagram
  • To work with The Hive Media Squad and support the media room team with content creation on session
  • To ensure that Hive safeguarding policies about the use of member’s images are followed
  • Build positive relationships with key local media to build The Hive’s profile and brand identity generating positive coverage and dissemination of key messages
  • Act as the guardian of The Hive’s brand, ensuring consistency of presentation and the further development and implementation of guidelines around visual identity
  • Stay abreast of external communications trends, highlighting where new approaches might be beneficial
  • Work with young people directly, obtaining case studies and supporting young people to tell their own stories
  • Act as a champion for communication and marketing activity within The Hive
  • Work alongside the Head of Marketing and Communications to support our Fundraising team, including the promotion, coverage and write-up of events to promote and raise funds for the Youth Zone
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by management

Holiday club Youth Worker

From £8.21 per hour (dependent on experience)

Hours to be agreed with candidate during holiday club periods based on availability

Can you provide a fun, safe environment for young people offering engaging activities? If the answer is yes, then you are the right candidate for us.

This is a fantastic opportunity for experienced youth workers to help enhance our holiday club offer here at Wirral Youth Zone. We are a charity with a state-of-the-art building offering a wide range of activities and targeted services for young people.

Attracting young people from across the borough and beyond through our fantastic facilities, the Youth Zone is a registered charity and provides positive activities and practical support for our members, with the aim of enabling young people to make constructive use of their leisure time and raise their aspirations.  The Youth Zone is open seven nights a week, at weekends and during school holidays.

 

The Role

The Hive is looking for youth workers to join our holiday club team working predominantly in the school holidays.  As a member of The Hive’s Team you will be key in ensuring young people have access to an exciting holiday club activity programme that will be challenging, stimulating, fun, engaging and developmental.

We are looking for someone who can:

  • Work directly with children and young people to plan, lead and deliver safe, fun and structured holiday club sessions within the Youth Zone which are progressive and reflect the needs of young people
  • Effectively manage behaviour within the Youth Zone ensuring that all young people feel safe
  • Confidently manage and establish positive relationships with groups of children and young people with children and young people
  • To encourage young people’s participation and engagement in the youth zone programme

Catering Assistant

Salary: from £8.21 per hour (dependent on experience)

Various evening and daytime shifts available working Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Job Purpose: 

The Hive, Wirral Youth Zone, is open to young people 7 days a week, evening, and weekends and for some young people The Hive will be a second home.  The café area is an essential part of the offer to young people and as a catering assistant you will play a key role, cooking inspiring and healthy dishes to service to young people as well as proving a warm and welcoming environment to all young people.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To undertake the preparation of food and beverages served in the recreation area as well for events, internal meetings and room hire
  • To serve food and beverage to Youth Zone members, ensuring they receive a great level of customer service
  • To assist with the production of and costing of menus
  • To comply with stock control procedures
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment is regularly cleaned, reporting any faults/repairs required
  • Ensure all Health and Safety and Environmental Health requirements are adhered to, namely:
    • Reporting of all equipment not working properly
    • Reporting of any health and safety issues
    • Compliance with food hygiene regulations
    • Ensure food is stored correctly and at correct temperatures
    • Recording of all high-risk food temperatures on delivery and prior to service, if applicable
  • To assist with the ordering and control of all stock
  • Cash handling in line with The Hive’s financial procedures
  • Maintain a clean working environment as set out in the cleaning schedule by ensuring regular cleaning of all work surfaces, storerooms, and ancillary areas
  • Clearing tables
  • Washing up
  • Undertake such other additional duties which may result from changing circumstances
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by management

Cleaner

Salary: from £8.21 per hour (dependent on experience)

15 hours per week: working Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 5am-8am

Job Purpose:

To provide a high standard of cleaning services throughout Wirral Youth Zone. As a critical member of the team you will contribute to ensuring that a great first impression is always given to visitors, and that all areas of the youth zone are safe and clean to open at all times.

The Role

In particular you will:

  • To be responsible for cleaning areas of the Youth Zone as allocated by the Facilities Officer or other manager
  • To perform various cleaning activities including cleaning toilets, sanitary fittings and surrounds; spot cleaning of spillages; wiping furniture, ledges, pipes, paintwork, doors and polishing door glass; emptying and cleaning bins; mopping and spray cleaning hard floor surfaces; floor polishing; wiping, polishing and straightening furniture; replenishing supplies in toilets; and moving items of furniture and equipment
  • To operate cleaning machinery (e.g. scrubber dryer) for cleaning soft and hard surfaces, such as vacuum cleaners and polishers
  • To follow opening and closing procedures
  • To report any emergency maintenance problems, including toilets and other water fixtures, or hazards immediately to the Facilities Officer

Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by management
