Chief Executive Officer

This is an exceptional opportunity for an inspirational individual to bring passion and leadership expertise to a high profile and career enhancing role within a successful and inspirational charity dedicated to improving the lives of young people on Wirral!  

The Board of Trustees of The Hive Youth Zone are seeking an exceptional individual to provide inspirational leadership to enable The Hive to continue to achieve its vision for young people.  Together with the opportunity to make a positive difference for young people, the successful candidate will work alongside a committed Board of Trustees, dedicated staff and volunteers and supportive patrons and funders.

The Hive Youth Zone is a state-of-the-art £6 million facility for young people, it opened its doors in April 2017 and they have been open 7 days a week and during the school holidays ever since, providing somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to. The OnSide Youth Zones network provides a wide range of sporting, artistic and recreational activities for over 43,000 members, aged 8-19 and up to 25 for young people with a disability.  Facilities at the Youth Zone include a four-court sports hall, climbing wall, a floodlit 4G all-weather pitch, fully equipped gym, skatepark, dance studio, music space, multimedia room, recreation and games area, café and arts area. The running costs are £1.6m per annum, funded by Wirral Borough Council, Capital Supporters, Founder Patrons, other donors, plus grants and trusts.

The Role

  • To maintain and grow the £1.6 million in annual income required to deliver and sustain the long-term future of the Youth Zone.
  • To lead, inspire and motivate the team of staff and volunteers in the delivery of an exceptional service for young people.
  • To develop and maintain relationships with key strategic partners, stakeholders and major donors.
  • To spend time at other Youth Zones and participate in OnSide’s Leadership Talent Development Programme as part of an intensive period of induction.

 

The Person

You will:

  • Have a proven track record of success in inspiring and leading teams to deliver exceptional results, strategic business planning and implementation.
  • Have managed significant financial budgets.
  • Be able to demonstrate income generation skills, together with outstanding communication, relationship-building and influencing skills.
  • Have an ambitious and results driven approach, with the ability to move easily from the strategic to the practical and be able to demonstrate a genuine passion for making a difference to the lives of young people.
  • Be flexible in your approach and a true believer in the aims of OnSide and The Hive.

The Organisation

The Hive, Wirral Youth Zone opened in the centre of Birkenhead in April 2017 and has already attracted thousands of young people from across the borough and beyond, through its fantastic facilities, dedicated team of youth workers and army of volunteers.  At The Hive, we believe all young people deserve a safe and inspirational place where they can make productive use of their leisure time. A place where they can find the support, encouragement and guidance which sometimes can be lacking in the home place. Our Youth Zone members flourish; such support allows them to raise their aspirations, improve their health and well-being and achieve their full potential. Together we strive to level the playing field and provide all young people with the opportunities they so deserve.

The Offer

As a member of the Outreach team you will work outside of The Hive and have responsibility for engaging with young people and will have responsibility for encouraging them to engage in activities with the overall goal to come sessions at The Hive.

Benefits include being part of a supportive network of across the OnSide Youth Zone network, full access to training opportunities, 33 days annual leave (pro-rota) and free gym facilities available on site during non-key times.

 

The Person

  • Experience of Outreach youth work and proven results of getting young people to engage in activities
  • Experience of delivering high-quality activities to young people both onsite and in a remote setting
  • Experience of ensuring the participation of young people in activities and that their ideas contribute fully in the delivery and evaluation of activities.
  • Positive, can do approach when engaging with young people both in the community and at The Hive
  • Proven experience of engaging hard to reach and disadvantaged young people.
